Gemma Stanton is an illustrator and surface pattern designer based in Surrey, with roots in the North East of England. Her work is inspired by storytelling, nature, and seeing the world through a joyful, curious lens - just as she did as a child, flipping through encyclopaedias, exploring the woods, and imagining secret worlds filled with animals and adventure.
After studying illustration at university, Gemma spent over a decade working in London as a graphic designer and art director. But it wasn’t until she became a mum to twin boys that she rediscovered her love for picture books and the magic of storytelling through illustration.
Now, she creates playful, characterful illustrations and patterns that blend whimsy with thoughtful design. Her love of animals, the seasons, and tiny, smile-worthy details runs through everything she draws. And her background in design means she’s just as happy solving the puzzle of a repeat pattern as she is dreaming up a new forest full of furry friends.
When she’s not drawing, you’ll find her in the woods with her two golden retrievers or spending time with her family - always gathering inspiration for the next idea.
